June 27, 2013
Last May 20, Crispin B. Beltran Resource Center, along with other patriotic groups, commemorated Crsipin “Ka Bel” Beltran’s fifth death anniversary in front of Ka Bel’s marker in Plaza Miranda, Quiapo, Manila.
During the commemoration, CBBRC handed a plaque of recognition to Justice Manuel Pamaran (Mayor Lim’s representative) for Mayor Lim’s support for CBBRC’s efforts to promote Ka Bels’ patriotic and pro-worker legacy.
Present were representatives from PISTON Partylist, Anakpawis Partylist, Kilusang Mayo Uno, and other progressive groups.
According to CBBRC Executive Director Ofel Beltran-Balleta, the event served as a challenge to newly-elected politicians to pursue Ka Bel’s legacy by upholding the people’s welfare above all. Balleta said, “Prove to the people that you are worthy of the position. Continue Ka Bel’s legacy of public service by enacting patriotic and pro-people laws. Laws that will not only ensure the alleviation of poverty but introduce long-term changes as well.”
PISTON Partylist nominee Mody Floranda spoke about the disqualification cases against progressive partylists PISTON and Kabataan, while Anakpawis Partylist nominee Joel Maglunsod spoke about Ka Bel as a labor leader.
After the program, the participants (along with the family) trooped to Angel of Meadows Memorial and Nature Park in Angat, Bulacan to visit Ka Bel’s grave. •
